Board Committees: The Evolving Responsibilities and Best Practices
This session will inform participants on what to look out for and understand from a strategic lens to be fully prepared to serve and excel in their committee roles. The panel will provide an overview on the general committees, their responsibilities, and the role directors play in ensuring successful oversight while adapting to the changing business landscape, expectations, and challenges of boards.
Board Committees and the Increased Focus on Stakeholders
Directors face ever-changing pressures from different groups of stakeholders. Pressures from diversity advocates, environmental activists, labor groups, activist investors, and their workforce, make work in the boardroom unpredictable. This session will consider practices directors can incorporate to balance the interest of key stakeholders while ultimately meeting the needs of its shareholders/company.

The Inquisitive Audit and Risk Committees
For audit committees, financial reporting oversight is job one. In addition, the panoply of risks that require oversight by the audit committee or a risk committee continues to grow exponentially – from compliance to cyber to culture to disruptive risk. This interactive exchange will provide an update on financial reporting oversight and facilitate sharing of best practices for oversight of the critical issues facing the committees today.
Demystifying the Nominating and Governance Committee
This session will help participants gain a greater understanding of the growing work of the board Nominating and Governance Committee. Panelists will share insights and best practices for navigating and leading in their committee role.
Joint Session: Shareholder Activism
First-hand accounts will discuss why Shareholder Activism happened, how it was handled and did results catalyze positive change or create unforeseen problems. Session will also provide advice on best practices.

Joint Session: Board Room Diplomacy
Learning how to be an effective director is both an art and a science. It takes great analytical skills (science) and board room diplomacy (art). The science is typically refined over many years of career experience but the art isn’t so clearly laid out to directors. Corporate governance experts will provide an overview of the hard skills needed to succeed as a director (private or public board) and concrete advice on the soft skills needed to be an effective director.

This panel consists of board search professionals sharing behind the scenes tips to help LCDA executives successfully interview for board opportunities given where they are along their board journey.
The Road to the Board Seat: Taking Control of Your Brand
Seasoned LCDA executives will gain insights on how to define and drive their own personal brands and will engage in a robust but intimate Q&A session on challenges and opportunities for navigating the road to securing a seat on a board.
